Sri Lanka once again failed to deliver as they succumbed to some mediocre batting. Dilshan playing his final international match could manage only a solitary run as Australia ripped apart Sri Lanka’s top order. John Hastings started off the proceedings and in the very first over he picked up the wicket of Dilshan. Looking to cut a wide delivery Dilshan could only edge to Warner at first slip. The stadium applauded as Dilshan walked off for one last time.

Kusal Perera along with Dhananjaya De Silva counter attacked the Australian quicks by dealing in boundaries. The partnership was broken by some brilliance in the field by stand in skipper David Warner. Faulkner joined the party as he held on to returning catch to dismiss Dinesh chandimal. Adam Zampa got a decision in favour of him to dismiss Kusal Mendis. Sri Lanka were in a deep trouble. Even as De Silva waged a lone battle,he was running out of partners at the other end.His half century steered Sri Lanka to a respectable total of 128 for the loss of 9 wickets.

Australia were off to a rousing start.David Warner along with the company of Glenn Maxwell were sending Sri Lankan bowlers all over the place.Maxwell played some unorthodox shots, reverse swept the spinners and lofted the seamers for maximums. He reached his half century in just over 20 balls and the partnership was inching towards the 100 run mark. Just when Australia looked comfortable in winning things started to happen.Maxwell was bowled when he looked to play an ambitious shot of Prassana’s bowling. Moises Henriques was the next to depart when stepped down only to be stumped. The flood gates opened for Sri Lanka as Australia started losing wickets in clusters.Warner and Faulkner were sent back to the pavilion in quick succession. Dilshan who failed with the bat earlier was determined to sign off his career with one last performance. He removed both Wade and Khawaja to reduce Australia to 120 for the loss off 6 wickets with still needing 10 more runs to cross the line. Travis Head and Peter Nevill ensured that there were no more hiccups as Australia won by 6 wickets with 13 balls to spare
