Indian Batsmen Virat Kohli has been fined 30 percent of match fees for violating the ICC Code of Conduct during India’s match with Pakistan in the Asia cup yesterday. The player was found to have breached Article 2.1.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
Article 2.1.5, ‘excessive’ shall include: (a) repeated appealing of the same decision/appeal; (b) repeated appealing of different decisions/appeals when the bowler/fielder knows the batter is not out with the intention of placing the Umpire under pressure; or (c) celebrating a dismissal before the decision has been given. It is not intended to prevent loud or enthusiastic appealing.
Match referee Jeff Crowe imposed the punishment on Kohli due the incident on the 15th over of the Indian Innings, when Kohli, after being given out leg before, displayed dissent by first showing his bat and then leaving the crease while looking back at the umpire and uttering some words that were contrary to the spirit of the game,” the ICC said in a release. Kohli who was on 49 that time had played a wonderful innings to get India out of the woods and was instrumental in India’s win over their arch rivals Pakistan.
The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Ruchira Palliyaguruge and Sharfuddoula, third umpire Enamul Haque and fourth official Anisur Rahman. Kohli had accepted the charges and thus their will be no formal hearing.
