This happened when Barcelona faced Arsenal in an away leg of the Round of 16 teams in Uefa champions league. Barcelona, who were looking poised to win the match were help to a goal less first half and Arsenal had already missed a couple of chances to score.
Soon after Lionel Messi scored from the penalty spot and put Barcelona two away goals ahead of Arsenal, Luis Enrique called Gerard Pique and whispered something. Minutes after which Pique made a clumsy tackle on the Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck and got booked with a yellow card.
Apparently Gerard Pique was one step away from missing the next match with a yellow card, what looked like a game plan by Luis Enrique so that Pique could be available with a clean chit in the Quarter Finals.
However, Luis Enrique denies the fact that he asked Pique to make a deliberately get booked.
He quoted in the post match interview that, “No, it was not a deliberate foul by Gerard Piqué, he had to commit that foul, There was nothing deliberate about it at all.”
Regardless of it being a plan or other action, Pique will miss the next match against Arsenal which is to be played at Camp Nou in March. Currently, Luis Enrique is poised to focus on the Liga clash against Sevilla this weekend and maintain the top spot.
