Two time Grand slam champion world number 6 Angelique Kerber Knocked out in first round of US open. Kerber become the second defending champion in the professional US open era who lose in the first round of US open.
It was shocking day for Angelique Kerber, Who was last year winner of US open. Kerber started first set with 4-1 lead, was look like all set for her new US open campaign. But after losing first set 6-3 from the lead. Kerber disappointed herself and didn’t managed to come back in the match. Losing the match against younger player in two straight set 6-4, 6-1 is bad day for Kerber.
19-year-old Japanese world number 45 Naomi Osaka took all the chances to win this match. Kerber did 23 unforced error in this match. It was Osaka’s first win against top 10 WTA players.
“I know that I’m strong and I know that I will come back stronger, for sure. I know that I will not (be) giving up,” said Kerber, the first defending champion to lose in the U.S. Open’s first round since Svetlana Kuznetsova in 2005.
Kerber early exit further shortening the women contender list in the absence of Serena Williams & Simona Halep exit.
Now all eyes are set on Karolina Pliskova, Maria Sharapova & Garbine Muguruza.
