Emerging victorious after a week-long gaming extravaganza is special for any player. Going down into history books and smashing records is something which adds glitter to the title won. Our very own ‘Golden Girl Sindhu’ has not only avenged the loss in Glasgow but has beaten Okuhara in style to win the Korea Superseries title. This was her third super-series title and she’s the first Indian to take home this crown.

After a neck-to-neck battle in the first game, it was the Olympic silver medalist who shifted gears. By making a splendid recovery in the first game, Pusarla made her intents very clear. Trailing by 18-20, the Indian held on to clinch four consecutive points. Thereby surprising her rival and inching a step closer towards the title.

Though, it was never going to be an easy road as the Japanese girl came back strongly in the second game. Change of courts and the drift affected Sindhu’s rhythm. Before she could find her way back into the game, the World Champion was surging ahead with 12-6. Without much ado, Okuhara tied the match at 21-11 and forced a decider.

As the third game progressed, Sindhu started hitting hard. The ploy worked as the Indian was leading 11-5 before the change of ends. Even though Nozomi tried to close up on the gap, it was the fifth seed who led all the way. Despite repeated attempts by the Japanese to bounce back, she couldn’t deter Sindhu’s composure. Ultimately it was the latter who emerged victorious.

The Golden Girl Sindhu

The Olympic and World Championship silver medalist has been in the best of her forms off-late. After her fantastic performance in the Rio Olympics 2016, she has never looked back. Since then she has started working harder and pushing herself to play the best.

Elated Sindhu lifted her arms in delight after outclassing the World Champion.

It was a very good match and I am happy to beat her. Both of us fought hard as anyone wants to win the final. Maybe it’s a sweet revenge in the end.

However, complementing Okuhara for fighting hard, she said that each point was important.

With players like Okuhara you have to expect long rallies. I realised that I needed to be very patient and avoid mistakes.

Overcoming all the challenges in the way, Sindhu’s road to history is quite magnificent.
