It was a great day for the Indian shuttler in Swiss Grand Prix Gold badminton tournament as HS Prannoy, Pranaav Jerry Chopra-Sikki Reddy reach quarter-finals while Subhankar Dey didn’t succeed.
Defending champion HS Prannoy made great effort in a thrilling win over China’s Qiao Bin to advance to the quarterfinals of the USD 120,000 Swiss Grand Prix Gold badminton tournament.
The fifth seeded HS Prannoy, who had a 3-1 head-to-head record against his opponent, staved off a challenge from the 10th seeded Chinese 9-21 23-21 21-15 in a match that lasted an hour and 12 minutes.
World No. 23 HS Prannoy, will now meet the winner of the match between China’s Shi Yuqi, who reached the finals at All England last week, and Denmark’s Anders Antonsen.
Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy, who clinched their maiden Grand Prix Gold title at Syed Modi Internationals in January, had reached the quarter finals of the mixed doubles event after 2 game win 26-24, 21-10 over Ko-Chi CHANG & Hsin Tien CHANG of Chinese Taipei.
In the quarter-finals, they will be up against the fifth seeded Chinese duo of Zhang Nan and Li Yinhui.
