Two times Olympic champion & current word number 5 Lin Dan won his first Malaysian open title. He defeated arch-rival Lee Chong Wei in 55 minutes match 21-19, 21-14 .c
Lee, a Malaysian, had led for much of the first set, but could not hold on to his 19-15 lead, allowing Lin to storm back with six straight points to win 21-19. Lin continued his domination in the second set, sticking to long rallies to secure victory.

It was Lin Dan’s first-ever Malaysian Open title after failing in his previous final attempts in 2005, 2006 and 2015. In the 2006 final in Kuching,
“I was doing fine before I made some errors and misjudged some of the shots. I lost focus after that,” said the 34-year-old Chong Wei.
“Lin Dan played with more confidence and boldly at the net. I’ve to accept this defeat. I’m just sorry to disappoint all the fans here,” said Chong Wei, the winner of the All-England last month.
Tai took home the title for Women’s Singles and a prize of US$600,000.
In Women’s final , Top-ranked Tai Tzu Ying of Taiwan won the Malaysia Open women’s singles title after defeating Spanish World and European champion Carolina Marin 23-25, 22-20, 21-13 in 85 minutes.
Tai was the only Taiwanese player who made it into the tournament’s last eight.
Last year, the two-faced off against each other twice, including during the 2016 China Open quarterfinal, both of which Tai won.
Earlier this year, Tai Tzu Ying won the coveted Women’s Singles title at the All England Open against Thai badminton player Ratchanok Intanon.
The Spanish Olympic champion ended a runner-up for the second week in a row, after India’s PV Sindhu defeated her in the final of last week’s India Open Superseries badminton tournament in New Delhi
