Carmelo AnthonyPlaying basketball since high school, Carmelo Kyam Anthony born in New York City is a member of the USA National Team as a player of the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association. Anthony has always set world records wherever he has played. While playing for his college in Syracuse, he helped the college win their first championship in the year 2003. Here Anthony earned the award for being the tournament’s “Most Outstanding Player”. Later when he became a part of the USA National Team, he made his country proud by winning a bronze medal at the 2004 Olympics as well as gold medals in 2008 and 2012 Olympics. He also won the 2006 FIBA World Championship as well as 2007 FIBA America’s Championship. Anthony in fact scored 37 points against Nigeria therefore breaking the United States Men Olympic Team’s record for making the highest points in a single game. Recently in 2014 Anthony has opted to be a free agent by leaving the New York Knicks. In 2013 Anthony became the NBA scoring champion and till date he has been elected 6 times in All NBA selection. Despite the fact that Anthony has opted to become a free agent recently every single basketball team in America is keen to associate him with their team. Despite having a successful career, Anthony has been surrounded by numerous controversies. He was suspected twice for carrying marijuana, once at the Denver International Airport and once when his friend was found possessing the drug in Anthony’s vehicle. He was once again surrounded by controversy when he appeared in a video entitled “Stop Snitchin” warning the citizens of Baltimore not to collaborate with the police. He had to withdraw his support from the video soon. Being controversy’s favourite child, he was suspended for 15 games after the infamous Knicks- Nuggets brawl at a game in the Madison Square Garden. He has also faced one year of probation, US$1000 in court costs and fines and 24 hours community service because he was driving while ability impaired. Nevertheless he is one of the best basketball players that the world has ever witnessed.
