ICC World T20 Final – Match Preview – England Vs West Indies

ICC World T20 Final

So the big day is here finally, It’s time for the grand finale Of the ICC World cup T20 2016.  It’s England Vs West Indies in the final being held at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.  Before the tournament Started not many would have predicted that this two team will qualify for the final. West Indies who were not even sure of whether they would come to play this world cup owing to the pay disputes with their Board are having a dream run in the world cup, They were the first team from Group 1 to qualify for the semi finals, & in the semis Knocked out the favorites India.  Similarly the young  English side were also not expected to go past the super 10 stage, but they also are having a superb tournament so far.

Pitch & Condition

The pitches  at eden have always been helpful to the spinners, and in this case should be no different. Toss is supposed to be a crucial factor here as both the team would want to bowl first on this wicket before the dew factor comes into Play. There are prediction of rain today, but looking at condition here now we don’t think there would be any.

Team News.

England: Eoin Morgan (captain), Jason Roy, Alex Hales, Joe Root, Jos Buttler (wicketkeeper), Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, Chris Jordan, David Willey, Adil Rashid, Liam Plunkett, Sam Billings, Liam Dawson, Reece Topley and James Vince.

They have relied on their pace bowlers to do most of the damage while bowling, however with the pitch at eden assisting spinne they might just be tempted to add a spinner to the squad. How ever that said it wouldn’t be a much surprise if they choose to go with the same 11.

West Indies: Darren Sammy (captain), Johnson Charles, Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels, Lendl Simmons, Andre Russell, Denesh Ramdin (wicketkeeper), Dwayne Bravo, Carlos Brathwaite, Samuel Badree, Sulieman Benn, Jason Holder, Jerome Taylor, Ashley Nurse and Evin Lewis.

Their strength lies in their batting, They bat deep and have power hitters throughout their batting order. They will have an edge over England in the spin department . They are also expected to go with the same playing XI.

Here’s what the captain had to say in yesterday’s press conference –

Darren Sammy

We are always David. David is a winner. Look, even now, I still don’t think people give us a chance. I said – David was big and strong but David defeated him with a sling and one shot. We always see ourselves as David and we will play like David, be smart about it, believe in ourselves in the dressing room and in each other, and like I have said it  before, if we do all these things with that belief in ourselves, were going to lift the cup.

Eoin Morgan

We are quite real about things, we know it’s not going to be a normal game. Even the semifinal we played, there was quite a lot of hype around the expectation of playing in a final, and I want all of our players to embrace it. Tomorrow everything will feel a little bit rushed to start with, it is important we are in the right frame of mind to slow it down when needed and more importantly execute our skills.
