As it is said that Football is a game of uncertainty and also football is very cruel, both the saying came true yesterday at the semi-final of Euro 2016 between host France and Germany. Germany who were the better side, who dominated almost 65% of the possession, But were punished for 2 mistakes as 2 mistakes cost them 2 goals.
France started the match brightly buoyed further by the home supporters who created an absolute stunning atmosphere at Marseille. France nearly went ahead in the 6th minute when a Griezmann shot was saved brilliantly by Neuer. But after that Germans started to dominate Proceedings creating chances at regular interval and keeping the lion share of the possession, Can went close in the 14th minute when Lloris was forced to make a full stretch save. The rest of the first half was a similar display with Germany dominating and France trying to hit them on counter but were incredibly wasteful. That was until the 45th minute when France won a corner, Evra headed the corner and it stuck the hand of German captain Bastian Schweinsteiger who could have done hardly anything to avoid that, as he was just an inch away. France were lucky that the referee awarded them a penalty, that many say is a bit harsh on the Germans, to add insult the German captain was also booked. Antoine Griezmann converted the resulting penalty blasting the ball in the right top corner as Neuer was sent the wrong way.
In the second half Germans tried hard to equalize and once again started dominating possession, creating chances , but it seemed like it was just not their day. Fc Barcelona newest Signing Umtiti had an excellent match as bossed the defense. Germany had a huge blow in the 59th Minute as their influential defender Boateng was injured and had to be subbed off.
And in the run of the play France had their second goal and it was none other than their superman Griezmann, Pogba slips on his dancing shoes and has his Zidane moment, leading Kimmich on a merry two-step before flicking the ball past him on the left-hand side of the penalty area and then hanging a cross up that Neuer palms away nervously. Griezmann pounces on the loose ball and prods home from 12 yards.
Germany hit back almost immediately as Kimmich curls a 25 yard shot which hit the crossbar, Germans tried hard but just couldn’t break the determined defense of France.
And in the end as Ole Ole Ole chant filled the Stadium it meant only one thing France are going to the final of Euro 2016 where a Cristano Powered Portugal is waiting for them.
