TIME FOR THE BARCELONA B YOUNGSTERS TO STEP UP

BARCELONA B

Although Barcelona B team got relegated this year, it houses a lot of talented youngsters showing great potential. And some of the lot were given a chance during the Copa Del Rey first round fixture. Samper and Gumbau didn’t disappoint. But clearly Munir and Sandro need to get better for a permanent stay at the first team.

Munir broke through the ranks of Barca B pretty quick and impressed in the UEFA Youth league. He scored a wonderful goal in the final from the half way line. This young man had caught the world’s attention. Soon he was given a chance to play for the main team. And he scored in his debut. This was followed by a call-up to the national team under Vincent del Bosque. But perhaps this was way too much and way too quick. He faded soon enough and with Luis Suarez returning after serving his four month ban, his first team chances were limited.

Sandro started off well. He scored a few important goals and it looked as if he was more effective than Munir. His strength and determination seemed to be getting the good out of him. Same as with Munir, the arrival of Suarez led to him being stuck on the bench for most of the season.

However there seems to be a worrying trend this year. Their finishing has been lacklustre. They seem to be devoid of confidence and hardly take any risks. That isn’t helping the team and more importantly themselves in the long run. One of the plausible solutions to this problem is to loan out the duo to some mid table side so as to get regular playing time to develop their talent.

On the other hand, a player like Tello is much more experienced playing at this level. He must be brought back as soon as his loan expires. And not to forget Adama Traore. His raw pace and dribbling skills can terrorize any defence. Although he is still young, his strength and low centre of gravity combines to form one player of enormous potential. His move to Aston Villa shocked quite a few as he is much better than the young duo of Munir and Sandro.

Apart from these guys, players like Gerard Deulofeu, Alen Halilovic, Sergi Samper, Denis Suarez are some of the other talented players waiting to get their chance to play for FC Barcelona. Halilovic is giving spectacular performances one after the other and was given the player of the month award for his club Sporting Gijon.

It is difficult when you have some of the best players already playing in the team but the must realise even Xavi and Iniesta had to be patient. The moment fate gave them a chance, there was no looking back and they went on to become legends of the modern era.

There is no dearth of talent for the Catalan Club. It just needs to make the right choices and let the youngsters do the talking on the pitch. They are the beasts waiting to be unleashed. La Masia has produced the likes of Guardiola, Xavi, Puyol, Iniesta, Messi and Busquets. No doubt there will be many more to come.
