There’s a saying that history repeats itself and our Indian Women’s Archery team has proved it by winning the Archery World Cup again in Wroclaw (Poland) a few days back. It was not an easy task as they were playing against one of the best teams in the world i.e., South Korea. Both the teams are in sublime form as they have won a lot of tournaments in the past. But at the same time, if we consider the form of both the teams against each other, South Korea is far ahead. From the last seven games that they have played against each other, South Korea has won five out of them.
It was a very difficult task for the Indian trio as they were playing against the Olympic gold medalists. The Indian squad consists of Bombayala Devi, Deepika Kumari and Rimil Buriuly and the South Korean squad consists of Yun Ok-Hee, Ki Bo Bae, and Joo Hyun Jung. Both the teams played against the best sides in the world to reach the finals of Archery World Cup. South Korea defeated United States, Russia and Italy whereas India defeated Denmark, Indonesia and Mexico. Now, let’s discuss the final game.
At one point of time, it was very difficult to choose between India and South Korea as both of them were tied as 163 each at the end of stage 3. At this crucial stage, wind also played its role. The archers from the sides shot an odd 7 because of wind. The final end was initiated by Korea in which they started with a disappointing 6 and then the last two shots were 9 each. In response to this, the Indian archers hold their nerves tight and scored 10 each. For the last three shots, Korean players scored 9, 8 and 10 whereas Indian players responded this by 10, 10 and 7. The final score came as 219-215 as Indian Archers clinched the Archery World Cup again.
There was also a little controversy when the Indian Archery team returned to India and they didn’t receive a welcome that they were expecting. It was said by Rimil Buriuly to a reporter that it was very disappointing that no high officials came for their welcome and when compared to other sports, lot of people come to receive the players at the airport. Indian Archery is growing day by day and it’s not very far when we Indians, will be the Olympic champions.
