Premier League week 28, One of the toughest weeks of the calendar when teams play 3 matches in the space of 8 days, championships are decided in such times. And the top 4 all dropped points thereby making the table more exciting going into the final weeks of the campaign. Elsewhere Aston Villa’s miserable run continues and relegation looks all set except for some mighty miracle were to occur. West Ham’s impressive away performances continued with their 0-1 win against Spurs. Here’s a look at what we learned from the week of some great football in the Barclay’s Premier League
5) LVG’s happy days are back- At one point it looked Louis Van Gaal may get sacked any day. But the recent resurgence has reignited some hope for a top 4 finish especially in light of the form of the rest of the top order. And when everyone expected the senior figures to drag the team out of the mess, it were the youngsters who did the job. Rashford, Depay, Martial and co. made sure the team is back on track and the fans will be hoping for the same throughout the season.
3) Title contenders faltering one by one- In a week when top of the table Leicester City dropped two points it was expected of the chasing pack to bridge the gap and surmount a title bid. But the Premier League lived upto its billing as the most exciting league when all the remaining top 3 lost and further increased the gap with the Foxes. Tottenham, Manchester City, and Arsenal all had to concede defeat in the face of superb performances from the other teams. By the looks of it, Pep Guardiola may be even forced to manage a club next season that doesn’t play in the Champions League. And the Gunners may have had enough of the disappointments year after year as they booed the manager and players out of the ground.
2) Chelsea slowly coming back in form- Jose Mourinho’s sacking was deemed necessary by the higher ups of the clubs although the fault lay in the form of the players. However the man in charge at present, interim manager Guus Hiddink may have found the perfect motivation for his players as the Blues continue their good form. With this form they may be even pushing for a Europa League spot.
1) Leicester City still the favourites – And the fairy tale continues. As Leicester City dropped points, people thought may be Tottenham would finally occupy the top spot. However a loss meant the Foxes now lead by 3 points. With Arsenal and Tottenham scheduled to play this weekend, a favourable result may benefit Leicester tremendously. Barring any major slip-ups, we are all set for history to be made come May.
