Germany’s Alexander Zverev made history by beating world number two Novak Djokovic in Italian open final at Rome by 6-4 ,6-3.

The 20-year-old Zverev claimed his maiden Masters 1000 title on Sunday with a straight set win over 4-time Rome champion Djokovic.

Alexander Zverev is the first player born in 1990s to win a set in an ATP Masters 1000 final.

It was just a 4th career title and 3rd this year for Zverev who moves up 7 places to 10 ahead of the French Open at Roland Garros from May 28 to June 7.

After this stunning Victory in Rome Master, Zverev enter in top 10 ATP ranking.

Novak who won semifinal cleanly struggled in final against Zverev. This was the first time both player played against each other. 30 ATP master 1000 titles winner lost match in straight two sets.

“I don’t know what to say,” Zverev said during the trophy presentation. “Coming in to this week I never thought I could be standing here in the finals or getting this trophy.”

“Getting the trophy from Mr. Laver is something very special and something I’ll remember for the rest of my career,” Zverev said.
