Johanna Konta who is current world rank 11th became the first British woman to win the Miami Open with a 6-4 6-3 victory over Caroline Wozniacki who rank world number 14th in WTA ranking. This is Johanna Konta ‘s second title of the year, after winning in Sydney in January.
With this victory, the 25-year-old Konta moved to a career-high seventh from current number 11 rank in the world rankings, beating her previous best of ninth last autumn.
Johanna Konta has now appeared in four WTA finals and won three out of them.
“Where we go from here is to continue working hard,” Konta said. “That’s what I love most about this sport. I love trying to get better every day and having opportunities like these to get a pat on the back is very rewarding.
“The belief has been there since I was a little girl that I’d like to be the best player in the world. But there’s a lot of work to be done between now and then, and a lot of matches, a lot of points to be played. So as long as I keep myself in the working mindset, I give myself the best shot.”
