Mithali Raj is one of the finest Cricketer in her generation scoring 5800 odd runs in One Day International Cricket by averaging more than 50 which includes 5 centuries and 47 half-centuries. The 34 year old is the present Captain of Indian Women Cricket in test and ODI. The Captain cool started playing cricket at the age of 10 and at the age of 17 she was picked to represent India at International level. She made her debut against Ireland in 1999 where she managed to prove her class by scoring 114*. Her flamboyant performance against Ireland gave her a real taste of success which carries through her whole cricketing career.
In 2003 she received Arjuna Award for her achievements in sports and Padma Shree, India’s 4th highest award in 2015. The formidable cricketer is now leading the Indian women side in the ICC world cup and desperately want to taste the glory of this pinnacle tournament. Mithali who recently hammered a reporter for asking who is your favourite male cricketer by saying “Do you ask the same question to a male cricketer? Do you ask them who their favourite female cricketer is?
“I have always been asked who’s your favourite cricketer but you should ask them who their favourite female cricketer is.” she added.
Her scintillating knock of 71 against England helps team India to put a strong total of 281 with the loss of 3 wicket which in the end became tough for the host to achieve the target. In her 18 year International career she smashed many record, I think her main mantra is to keep calm and break records which includes 7 consecutive 50’s most by any women cricketer, 47 half-century smashed by Mithali Raj most by any women cricketer breaking the previous records set by a former English International Charlotte Edward, 52.27 average of Raj in ODI which is best among any women cricketer in the planet who played more than 100 ODI.
