When Andre Russel Hit the ball by Virat Kohli for a six on Thursday, a billions heart were broken, the whole country was hoping that India will win their second T20 world cup & this time at home. But it was not be as team India fell short at the semi-final Hurdle. Though the tournament did give us many moments to celebrate whether it’s the Win against arch-rival Pakistan, or the last ball win over Bangladesh, & not to forget the incredible batting of Virat Kohli in the game against Australia as he led the stunning chase to help India qualify for the semis.
Let’s have a look at The ratings of the Indian players.
Shikhar Dhawan – 3/10.
He had a disappointing tournament and was dropped from the squad in the semi finals, Both he & Sharma failed to provide the start that was expected of them. In the 4 matches that he played he scored 43 runs with his highest score being 23.
Rohit Sharma – 5/10.
He too like Dhawan had a sub par tournament Up to the semis, His only good knock in the tournament came in the semi final match, where he score a quick fire 43 of 31 balls to provide a good start to India. He scored 88 runs with an highest score of 43.
Ajinkya Rahane – 6.5/10
He got only 1 chance in the tournament, against west indies and he played well in that match. Scoring 40 runs in 35 balls. Though a lot of people a criticizing him saying his innings was to slow, but he did what was expected of him, i.e – Build the innings early on & provide a good start which India didn’t get in any of the previous matches.
Virat Kohli – 10/10.
Is there anything that this man can do wrong now?? I don’t think so, at form that he is in whether it’s batting , bowling , fielding, or even off field affairs , it wouldn’t be a surprise if he becomes the president of country & solves all the problem. Jokes aside, Kohli has been supreme form through out the tournament, Scoring 273 runs & also picking a wicket in the semi’s. He was the reason behind the successful chase against both Australia & Pakistan, & his knock against west indies was a pure class.
Suresh Raina – 6/10.
Raina had a disappointing tournament with the bat scoring just 41 runs, So Raina the batsmen would probably get the rating of 2/10. But he bowled well in the limited opportunity that he got. He picked a wicket in each match that he bowled and got the crucial breakthrough for India. In 6 overs that he bowled throughout the tournament he picked up 3 wicket & conceded only 29 runs.Plus as usual his fielding was superb, so an extra marks for his fielding .
Yuvraj Singh – 7/10
While stats might not do the justice to the rating given to him as he has just scored 52 runs in the 4 innings that he played and has picked up a single wicket in the only match that he bowled. But he was crucial reason that India reached the semis, In the match against Pakistan when wickets were falling quickly he was the one who forged a steady partnership with Kohli and stood at one end. Similarly he along with Kohli gave India the launching platform to chase down Australia’s total. And in that match he picked a crucial wicket of smith and also bowled well giving only 19 runs in his three overs.
MS Dhoni – 8/10
Dhoni did what was expected of him i.e finishing the match in most of the matches except against New Zealand. His captaincy was also superb throughout the tournament, with the only questionable decision being not giving Ashwin more overs in the semi final.
Hardik Pandya – 6.5/10
The last over hero against Bangladesh had an average tournament. Though he picked up 5 wickets in the tournament, he was taken to the cleaners in most of the matches and has an economy of nearly 11 in the tournament. Plus with the bat also he couldn’t contribute to the team and. Plus not to forget what his no ball in the semis did.
Ravindra Jadeja – 7/10.
He had a good tournament with the ball picking up 4 wickets with an economy around of 7. Plus he was excellent in the field , his only disappointment was in the batting department.
Ravi Ashwin – 7/10.
He did well in some matches and bad in some matches, overall he had a sort of average tournament, and just like Pandya bowled a no ball that will haunt him in future. He picked up 4 wickets in the tournament.
Jasprit Bumrah – 6.5/10.
Though he picked up wickets he was very expensive throughout the tournament, especially in the starting overs.
Ashish Nehra – 8.5/10
Nehra or Nehraji as everyone like to call him recently did what was expected of him, provide early breakthrough. He led the bowling from the front using all his experience.
Manish Pandey – N/A
As the rest of the player’s in the squad didn’t play a single match they aren’t considered for the ratings.
