India posted a convincing win over Bangladesh in the opening match of Asia cup 2016. India batting first posted 166/6 in 20 overs, thanks largely to the contribution of Rohit Sharma who scored 83 runs of 55 balls & Hardik Pandya who made a quick fire 31 of just 18 balls. After being put into bat by Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza, India got off to a poor start with Dhawan departing in the second over and Kohli in the 4rth over. Raina also departed quickly and at the end of 8th over India were reeling at 42-3, From there Yuvraj Singh and Rohit Sharma steadied the innings a bit, Yuvraj departed with the score reading 97/4 in the 15th over, After that Hardik Pandya joined Sharma in the middle and both started going after the bowlers and took india past the 150 mark. Both Pandya and Rohit departed in the last over,Dhoni finished the innings with his trademark last ball six.
Bangladesh also started their chase badly with opener Mohammad Mithun being bowled for 1 by Ashish Nehra in the 3rd over. And from there onwards indian bowlers continued to pick wicket at regular intervals and Bangladesh never looked like threatening enough. Sabbir Rahman top scored for Bangladesh with 44 of 32 balls, Nehra was the best bowler for India with the figures of 3/23.
Lets have a look at what the players had to say after the match
MS DHONI
It would’ve been good to win the toss. We wanted to see the kind of start and then set a target. It was kind of 55-45 with the toss. Rather than hitting the big shots straight down, it was important to cut and use such shots since they were bowling short of length. Batting fearlessly is Hardik’s strength and that’s why we want to give him more matches, he’s a good fielder too and a useful third seamer. I’ll be able to sit tomorrow (about the back).
Ashish Nehra
It was a 140-150 track but with the way Rohit and Hardik batted, they gave us some extra runs. There was something for the bowlers later also if one bowled in the right areas. Once I bowled my first over we were sure that we wouldn’t let them score much. I don’t mind the kind of pitch we got in Pune, honestly, and the one today was not an up and down pitch. I was upset with myself not with Hardik when I threw my cap
Mashrafe Mortaza
Last 15 years I’ve seen that fans always support us. We were in the game till the 14th over but after that Rohit took the game away from us. We bowled a lot of slower ones later and the ball was not gripping.
ROHIT SHARMA(MOM)
It’s important for me to start afresh and not look back too much. This is a perfect platform for us before the World Cup. It was unusual to see this kind of wicket in this part of the world. It was always important for one batter to bat as long as possible and I told myself I had to do that. I was focusing on my basics on this kind of the pitch, use the pace of the bowlers. It was a good wicket and the ball was carrying.

And here’s how twitter reacted to the match and India’s win
It's good to produce such pitches if you have a plethora of fast bowlers but then you should also have the batting to deal with it #IndvsBan

Dhoni has become very predictable for bowlers. They all know he's gonna hit six off their last ball of the innings. #indvsban
