The 9th edition of the cash rich Indian Premier League has been a little wayward than usual. It’s been good, but not outstanding like usual. Somehow this edition of the IPL feel lackluster as compared to other previous edition. Let’s have a look and try to find out the reason of this lackluster IPL.
1.) Terrible Opening Ceremony
Just like a good opening stand sets the tone for a good batting performance by the team, IPL opening ceremony used to provide the perfect opening platform for the IPL to begin, the fun the glamour all used to contribute for making the IPL A grand experience but this time the opening ceremony turned out to be a damp squib. The event was criticized widely in social media and left a bad taste in the fans mind.
2.)two strong teams missing the IPL
Chennai Super Kings(CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) two of the strongest team of IPL were banned from this edition of IPL, this also contributed to a sub standard cricketing action in the IPL, And also both this team had a huge fan following , and after their ban it’s only natural that this fans would lose interest in the Tournament and stop watching it, which lead to drop in the TV ratings.
3.) Empty Stadium
This year in nearly almost all IPL matches around 10- 15% stadium is remaining empty, now that might not look like an empty stadium but when u compare it to the previous edition of the IPL when almost every match used to be a full house, this is a disturbing trend. And to think that in cricket crazy country like India if you get 15 % empty seats, it does mean that something somewhere is not Right. One of the prime reason is cricketing overdose, with even the cricket T20 World cup held recently that too in India.
4.)Injuries to top Players-
Yuvraj Singh, Lasith Malinga and the list goes on and on, a number of star players were injured even before the Tournament started , And after the tournament started we saw several star players including kevin pietersen, Du Plesiss, Steve Smith etc getting sidelined due to Injury, with no of teams missing their several key players their balance suffered and the overall standard of cricket suffered.
Let’s hope that coming week will deliver some good cricketing action and fans will finally have some good entertainment.
