England Crush West Indies to Secure Semi-Final Berth
England became the first team to book their place in the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 after registering a convincing 38-run victory over the West Indies at Lord’s on Wednesday.
The hosts continued their perfect run in the tournament, securing their fourth consecutive win to move to the top of Group B with eight points. Meanwhile, the West Indies, who also entered the contest unbeaten, must now defeat Ireland in their final group-stage fixture to keep control of their semi-final hopes.
Wyatt-Hodge Powers England to 186/7
After being put in to bat, England suffered an early setback when Chinelle Henry removed Amy Jones in the opening over. However, the early wicket did little to slow down the hosts.
Danni Wyatt-Hodge led England’s charge with a superb 65 off 42 balls, an innings decorated with eight boundaries. She found excellent support from the middle order as Alice Capsey contributed 28, while Heather Knight made the West Indies pay for dropping her on 14 by smashing a quick-fire 43 from just 26 deliveries.
England scored 86 runs in the first 10 overs before accelerating brilliantly in the second half of the innings, adding another 100 runs to post a formidable 186/7.
Despite the dismissals of Wyatt-Hodge and power hitters Freya Kemp and Danielle Gibson, England’s lower order produced a strong finish, scoring 24 runs in the final two overs to push the total beyond the 180-run mark.
For the West Indies, off-spinner Ashmini Munisar was the standout bowler with figures of 2/42 from her four overs. Aaliyah Alleyne was the only bowler to go wicketless, while the rest of the attack conceded more than eight runs per over.
England Bowlers Keep West Indies in Check
Chasing 187, the West Indies needed a big contribution from their powerful top order of Hayley Matthews, Deandra Dottin and Shemaine Campbelle.
England struck early as Linsey Smith removed captain Matthews in the fourth over. There was a brief counterattack from Dottin, who greeted Charlie Dean with two boundaries and a six, but Dean responded brilliantly by dismissing the dangerous batter.
Campbelle, who had starred with a match-winning innings against New Zealand earlier in the tournament, was bowled by Sophie Ecclestone for 20 as West Indies slipped to 64/3.
England’s disciplined bowling attack then tightened its grip on the contest, restricting the scoring opportunities and keeping the required rate climbing steadily.
Henry’s Fighting Fifty Not Enough
Jahzara Claxton and Chinelle Henry attempted to revive the chase with a 63-run partnership for the fifth wicket. However, the stand consumed 53 deliveries and failed to provide the acceleration needed to threaten England’s total.
Henry emerged as the lone bright spot in the West Indies innings, finishing unbeaten on 51, an innings featuring four boundaries and two sixes.
The West Indies eventually closed on 148/5, falling 38 runs short as England completed another commanding performance to become the first team to secure a place in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 semi-finals.
